Hey, I'm new to this forum. I recently have been considering purchasing a new system. I want to connect it to a 27" monitor which I have. Therefore, the native resolution of games would be 2560x1440, I was just wondering if I would encounter any issues with the following specs:

CPU: Intel Core i7 2600 Quad Core CPU, 3.4 GHz
Motherboard: Z68 Chipset Motherboard
RAM: 8GB (2 x 4GB) Dual Channel DDR3
Video Card: AMD HD6950 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI-E 2.1/2.0/16x 800/5000MHz, DVI / HDMI / Display Port, DX11, Fan
PSU:650W

If anyone could give me an idea of how Shogun 2 TW would run that would be helpful (given the demanding nature of this game). Thanks!

kk Here is a starter parts list with Newegg prices.

i5 2500k (i7 isn't that much better for gaming) $22

P8Z68-V Gen3

8GB RAM I like these (but look for the best brand/price in your area)

HDD are a crap shoot with prices. You have to pick the size you want and a few brands and watch prices here. I am not even including one in my newest build, just using a 128GB SSD until prices come back down.

GPU- here's one that you mentioned, but we need that second opinion here

you could go with an i5 cpu unless you really have a need for the i7. i5 2500k is very nice :)

Shogun 2 would perform great on a system like this.

If you need help with picking brands and finding best prices. Just let us know :)

For a bit more, I like:

Any reputable optical drive

A cpu cooler to budget

less expensive, but not as cool

or a bit more but cooler (= higher OC depending on the chip)

Solution
Thanks for your help. Did a bit of research and found that the 6950 is more an excellent card for high resolutions, due to its memory. Turns out the cost of the prebuilt off ebay is the same as your suggested build (+an SSD), with the addition of the i7 2600k over the i5 2500k. So for once, I think a prebuild may actually be a better option. Thank you for your help!
