[SOLVED] Buying Used Parts

Hello, I'm 14 and can't get a job. So I resorted to buying used parts online to save some money. I haven't actually bought any parts yet and I'm probably only going to buy the GPU used. I'm scared though, what if the part doesn't work? What should I look out for?

do you guys think $125 is a good price for the MSI 1050 ti

No. A few new RX 570s for $120-$130 and there's even an 8 GB 570 at $140. I wouldn't be interested in spending the same amount of money on a used 1050 Ti as it takes to buy a new, faster card.

The only exception would be if I had a very basic power supply that I absolutely could not change.

I wouldn't even consider a used 1050 Ti until we get to $100. And even at $100, I think I'd probably still prefer a new 570.

let's begin with your budget, what should it be? Used parts may not work but are you still wiling to do it?

i cannot access the account apparently they have blocked the country i am in...

i guess you have to tell me what you're looking for then.

Best tip would be to buy it on a platform that has protections for buyers. This platform does not, it explicitly says all sales are final. On eBay, you actually have some recourse if you buy a defective item.

$140 is also a pretty craptacular price for a used 1050 Ti, considering you can find new ones under $170 now and RX 570s can be found new for under $140 and are faster than a 1050 Ti. I wouldn't advise touching a used 1050 Ti unless we're talking $100 or so and even less if it's on a platform with no protections for buyers.

I don't have a set budget, In fact, I have already bought every part except the GPU and the CPU. Also, I have 125$ saved, and I'm using that money to buy the CPU on Amazon.

The guy I'm buying it from has agreed to test it before I buy it. He said he will put it in his old build while I'm present.

I have haggled the guy down to $125. Also, we've agreed to test the part on his old build.

As was suggested, at least if you have a 450+ watt power supply for your system, I would rather go for a brand new Radeon RX 570 for about the same price...

An RX 570 should provide nearly 50% more graphics performance, and of course a new one will come with a fresh warranty, so you are not stuck without a card if it happens to fail within the first couple years.
