After a new windows I noticed that my c drive was nearly full and though before the update only 60 gigs were being used out of 150. after the update 149 are being used. now that i have increased the partition size from 150 gigs to about 600 gigs all looked well. until i woke up the next morning and noticed that overnight 200 gigs was filled...i have not downloaded anything. i have checked the the physical files and it registers that in the entire drive theres only 95 gigs in the file system. where is this invisible data coming from and how did it fill up 200 gigs OVERNIGHT! please help. i checked the windows update logs and found that windows 10 home updater had tried...and failed to download 38 times!

Download Glary Utilities, use the Diskspace Analyzer, it will show you exactly whats taking up all the space, google it find out why. it may be the system restore or shadow coppies aswell like said above. Right click the drive, Properties, Disk Cleanup, Clean as admin, CLick the second tab for more cleaning, click delete previous windows restores/copys

download and run a program like treesize or spacemonger, it will help you identify the culprit.

Hi there Brent_the_Ent,

As your HDD is filling up that fast, I guess that your system is creating restore points. Just reduce the space allocated for System Restore and delete previous restore points. Here's how you can do that: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/5482/make-system-restore-use-less-space-in-windows-7/
In case the issue persists, you can use some disk analyzing tool as gbb0330 suggested.

Hope this will help,
