Cable Modem & Network Hub

I have an Arris cable modem/router with four network ports. I have a computer, xbox and printer connected directly to the router. The fourth port is connected to another network switch that is connected to three computers and a plotter. My sons xbox is loosing network connection on a regular basis. I have noticed the modem/router is warm to the touch. My question is this to many devices connected to modem/router? And, would it be better to connect one network switch to the modem/router and connect all the devices to one switch? Thanks for any help!

I have 30 devices connected to my FIOS router. A half dozen should not be an issue. Start with a new cable to the xbox.

The router MAY still be overheating, but not because of a half dozen hosts connected by wired ethernet.

We replaced his xbox thinking that was the problem and also a new CAT 6 cable, still having same problem. I am going to try placing a fan on the router to cool it down to see if that helps.
