Cable to run 144/120hz from laptop to monitor

So i have a asus vg248qe and a acer an515 52. I would like to game at 120/144hz but cant find a cable that actually runs it and isnt supper expensive.
My monitor has hdmi (version lower than 1.2, cant run 120hz), displayport and dvi. My laptop has a 3.1 type c (doesnt pass video) and hdmi.
Have tried some cables already and none worked, please help if you know how to do it.

If your system doesn’t have a display port plug you won’t be able to run 144hz.

The display port is the only way to get true 144hz. You’re going to be limited to 60hz no matter what with the HDMI plug. And don’t try to HDMI to Display adapter it won’t work. Your system has to have a display port.. sorry man.

But doesn't hdmi supports 120hz?
