Call Of Duty 4 FPS Drops Problem

Hey guys, I am on Win 8.1 pro x64 and now after getting my new PC , I am getting FPS drop in COD4. It happens in this way - It drops and then at the very moment increases , and thereby making me impossible to move.It freezes for like half second and then resumes the game. It happens all the time in the game.

My rig :
CPU- Core i7 4th gen 4771 3.5ghz
GPU- Asus GTX 760
RAM-16 GB DDR 3

P.S: All drivers are updated and Punkbuster is manually updated.
I have also lowered my polling rate of my mouse to 125 and still the problem remains. Using Roccat KONE XTD mouse.
Also reinstalled windows but same problem.It happens only in COD4.

What to do next ? Is there any way to get rid of this problem ? It never happened before.


I am looking for solutions everywhere and cant find. I am so lost .

it sounds like micro suttering that usually happens on SLI or Crossfire. i have seen many people getting this problem

cuz i have had this problem once, then i reinstalled the game and everythings solved

I only have one GPU.

Yes I uninstalled but the same thing
Oh btw, I have two legit copies of COD 4. Both are on Discs. I uninstalled and installed again from the second disc and still the same problem.

how about reseat the gpu? like try plug it on other slot

My best guess is that you're running it on a Win8.1,that's why it's happening.

This game is pretty old and maybe there is this compatibility issue with this game.

downgrade window to window 7

If you really wanna play this game, then you might wanna downgrade to Win7. It works fine on that.

Otherwise, since, your rig is pretty decent, you might wanna keep your Win8.1 for better compatibility with current games.


If you have enough desire and time, then downgrade and play, then again upgrade!

I think I will keep Win 8.1 and play all the current games. And besides I have played 7 years of COD4 . No need to play more.
