Because I'm doing a graphics card on laptop thing, I'm powering the gtx 970 with a 220w power supply. GTX 970 has a 145 wattage so I suppose it should be enough. Do you guys think if it will be fine?

No. A 220w power supply doesn't have the pcie power pins anyways. [strike] the gtx970 needs 28 amps on the 12v rail.[/strike] i highly doubt the 220w has that much. even if it did and you could get it to output the pcie pin connectors... the risk of using a low end unknown low wattage power supply anywhere near 75% of its rated power is dangerous.

The GTX 970 requires 12.08A, 28A is for the entire PC.

Since when was the GTX970 a 336w card?

just going by nvidia specs and the limits of the pcie connectors which is a theoretical maximum. plenty of reviewers have pushed the cards to 1550mhz and are well above the 250w range.

Oh what a surprise! Does the OP mention anything about OC'ing the snot out of the card? No, so as THE CARD is a 145w part it only requires about 12.1A not 28A.

most reviews show the card running around 190w. theses reference versions are definitely much lower power, but the 145w rating is unrealistic. either way the op shouldn't not try to power the card on some unknown 220w power supply.

here is sr71 saying the same thing.

EDIT: and actually i am wrong and mousemonkey is correct. the 28 amps is accounting for the whole system 12v load which may include up to a 12 amp draw cpu(fx 8 core). in reality if the power supply is only powering the gtx970, a psu of decent quality with a much lower amp rating, 16 amps leaving some headroom, would work fine as long as it has the correct pcie power pins for the gtx970.
