I'm upgrading from a school laptop to a desktop PC and I want to know if the GTX 660 Ti is compatible
with a Dell OptiPlex 7040 ?

I know about the age of your Dell, Dell had an issue with GTX 670's that needed the Video cards BIOS flashed for the Dell to play happy.

I also know the same Dells were just fine with a GTX 650 so the GTX 660ti IDK?

If you have the card just try it and see what happens.

Oh and just an FYI the Dell had no issue with Nvidia GTX 750's, GTX 760's GTX 780's or GTX 900 series as well.
