can a second router help me?

I have a router in my house and whenever i'm playing a game with no-one on the wifi I get good ping on csgo but whenever 2 or more people join the network at start browsing the internet my ping on the game would rise up to 1000+ resulting in the game unplayable, so my speculation is that there are too many people on the router at the same time using the internet causing a slowdown, so my question is that if i get another router and use that solely for my computer would that eliminate the bottleneck and resulting in a better connection for me? Thanks everyone. :)

well i cant really change that since i live in australia and adsl2+ only gives out 1 mbps upload no matter what isp

its a 2-in-1 netcomm nb304n

If there isn't a way to get higher than a 1 upload, you are probably out of luck. I'm sorry, but there isn't anything you'll be able to do. Adding another router will do nothing. The only option you would have is to buy another router and modem and run your games off of that line and then everything else off the other line.

whats the difference of adding another modem+router and router

A new router won't do anything. Bandwidth is the limiting factor.

He was also stated that he as having problems when more than one person was online. A better router would help that.

for QoS do you need to add all of the devices or just the device that im having problems with?

would having a router just for my computer help? and the original router for everyone else in the house.

A better router in of itself may be all you need. It is true that the overall speed will not improve (without a faster internet speed). The better router is able to use more of the available internet speed. The processor in a N600 or N900 router is improved. The throughput and range should improve with the better router as well. You would need to check if your wireless PC's are compatible with any new wireless router that you select.

I would also consult your IPS about an improved modem

It is also a gigabit router, so you can use ethernet for the fastest possible connection speed.

You need to read the article you link yourself. It pretty clearly implies why just running out and buying new equipment will not help.

A router that is 600m will not run any faster than one than is 300m unless you can use both the 2.4g and 5g bands independently. Looking at routers that use 450m per band is generally a waste of money because it requires the end devices to have 3 antenna which is not common. Just like 600m that wants 4 antenna, you just don't see many end devices using them so your are wasting money.

Like this article says you need to understand these number so you can make a educated choice. Just chasing bigger numbers falls into the marketing trap set by the manufactures.

I don't need wireless range as I am already using Ethernet, so would having another router just for my computer help?

Especially with ethernet the router you have will likely be more than fast enough. If you had a 1g connection then you can easily see bottlenecks in the routers but even fairly old routers can exceed most people internet connections. Yours at 13m should be no issue.

The router likely is not your problem you just do not have enough bandwidth coming into your house. There is not easy solution for that unless you can buy a faster service from the ISP.

You need to try to see what other people are doing with the connection and see if there is anything that can be agreed to. Someone running a torrent will kill just about anyone connection. Still if someone is running a video skype call or anything else that uses more than average upload speed it can cause a issue. Even a game will use 300-500k of your upload so 2 people running games would max a connection like yours out.

I was the one who posted the article. I know what was in it.

You act as if there is no reason to ever get a new router. My first post here pointed out that .
What are your router and modem? The internet speed and the modem itself are probably the limiting factors. Particularly the modem can limit even the best router to a crawl.

This article better illustrates the point.

How Fast Can Your Wi-Fi Go?

Look you can try a new router or you can take the bill001g advice and crawl under a rock and never ever buy a new router. There are more advantages to a new router than trying to improve the internet speed by buying the latest router.

If you are using ethernet already, then a gigabit router will help most. Also make sure that the modem itself is a good one.

To specifically answer the question " if i get another router and use that solely for my computer would that eliminate the bottleneck and resulting in a better connection for me? ". No, a second router is only going to help expand the wireless range (and only if the second router has that capacity).

If you have another router & modem & ISP account, then it would remove the competition But that would be expensive.
