Question Can an HDMI splitter have both outputs on at the same time?

No, no matter what you do, you cannot project 2 signals to the same monitor in the same time. A go-around would pe Picture-in-Picture but the monitor/TV must know this and xbox and PC must be conected in diferrent ports in the same monitor/TV.

Okay. Thanks for the info. If I decide to go ahead with my idea I will just buy a monitor that has two HDMI inputs.

The one that I linked to has the wording switcher and 4K splitter. HDMI switch splitter.

Kinda confusing.

But if both input ports can be active at the same time I guess it should work.

Yes, you should be able to use a HDMI switch between the single port on the monitor and the two devices you want to connect. The switch would then dictate which gets to the monitor, but they could both be turned on (just not simultaneously visible) the whole time if needed.

So if the lights on the switcher don't both come on at the same time, isn't that kinda strange? If I want both my Xbox and my graphics card to be going through the switch at the same time, it seems to me that both lights should be on.

Actually, would I even need to hook up the HDMI cable coming from my computer's graphics card to my monitor? Because doesn't the Xbox have it's own graphics card in it?

Please be more detailed in what you want, you want to see both your pc and xbox in the same time? You want to use a single monitor on xbox adn pc and switch between them for ex if you want to play xbox you play on xbox and AFTER THAT you want to use pc, you can use teh pc on teh same monitor? It is not clear what you want.

It's a switch. If you switch your lights on are they on and off at the same time?
How do expect that to work? Do you want the PC and the xbox to overlay their pictures over each other?!
The port that has the light on is the port that gets shown on the monitor, that will be either the gpu or the xbox, both can remain turned on you do not need to turn off the one that is not showing at the moment.
You connect both the gpu and the xbox to the switcher and then only the switcher to your monitor.

I'm just wondering now if I would even need a switch because the Xbox has it's own graphics card in it. But if I did not buy and use a switch then I would always be unplugging my Xbox and plugging in the graphics card.

So I think if I decide to go ahead and move my Xbox from the bedroom to the living room where my PC is I will go ahead and buy the switch.
