Read the HP site and it says it supports 2, 4, and 8gb...but I thought it can support 32GB total? If so, you can't get that with any 2 of those. I'm a Noob, so, ignore me if I sound dumb. Thanks much
Yes, only 2. Here is the page with a picture of the motherboard. Also, when I connected a new fan to the spare fan terminal, nothing happened, and I didn't see anything in the BIOS to turn that on either. Thanks much
Calvin7, I don't understand unbuffered... I'm extremely noob
To put it in layman's terms then, unbuffered RAM is the typical consumer RAM, not the high-end stuff you see in servers and applications that need a very high degree of accuracy.
You *might* be able to get it to work, but it's not a safe bet that you can go above 2x8 GB of RAM.

Thank you guys. Makes sense about the ram, and I'll just do 2 8gb then. Well, it will save me some $. Any idea on the extra 3 pin fan connector not working? Thank you guys for the prompt reply on the ram!
Spare 3-pin fan header? On a OEM board? Can you provide a better picture of the board and where the header is? Usually OEM boards have just the exact number of fan headers the company needs for its fan(s) that the system comes with.
You've got the header for the CPU cooling solution and the one that's no doubt used for the cheapo exhaust fan it has on the back. No more headers besides that.
The "System Fan Connector" on pic doesn't have anything hooked up. That's the one I want to add a fan to. I only have a CPU fan, and would like more air. It's a tight case, but I can fit 1 or 2 40mm fans inside. Thanks much
If that is a SYS FAN connector, there should already be a factory-installed fan connected to it, no? If not and it is free, then it should be available for you to use. Not sure why it isn't working. Do you have a volt-meter to test with?
Yeah, no fan connected to it. I thought it needed more air flow in the case. It's an hp slimline 270. No volt meter. I guess I can try another fan when it gets delivered. If it worked I was going to get a 3 pin female to a 3 pin double male y adapter and put a fan on back, and one on top. Yeah, definitely nothing connected to that though. I'll try to snap an actual photo if I'm able to here in a bit.
First 3 pics are turned to side for some reason. I don't know about last 2 pics as I just added them to this post. If you tip the top of your phone to your right, with screen rotation off, the pics will be what I would see right side up.
Well, try a know-working fan on the header, or borrow a voltmeter to test for voltage on the +12v and neg (grd) pins. https://i.stack.imgur.com/q2CQC.png
No sense doing anything unless you can find why the header isn't working. BIOS setting, maybe?
Sounds good. Waiting for new fan to be delivered via UPS. I will try that as soon as it comes in. I looked in bios, and didn't see anything. I saw pcu fan speed, but that was it. When I go to bios tonight, I'll take a pic. THIS I'S front of machine with front Covery off
