I have a Toshiba C55-B5100 laptop. It came originally with Windows 8.1. I created recovery discs and also had a Windows Image Backup as well. My hard drive failed and when I tried to put another hard drive in it and recover my OS from Windows Image Backup, it got almost to the end and failed. Same with the recovery discs I made. My thinking is the reason for the failure is the BIOS had been updated to V 5.00 to accomodate the Windows 10 free upgrade, and my recover discs and image backup were made under either V1.70 or 1.60 and that's creating the error. Any thoughts or solutions?
I went to the Toshiba support site and downloaded the 1.70 BIOS, extracted the ISO and burned it to a DVD. Is it possible to flash the BIOS using it, without having Windows 8.1 installed? Currently I have Linux Mint installed on the laptop to get some use of the machine, but I'd like to get Windows 8.1 installed on it again if it's possible.
