Hi, this may sound weird to most of you but I am trying to power a portable external HDD for my iPad to access files on the go. Obviously the iPad alone doesn't have enough power to run the HDD alone so I was wondering if any old external power bank would supply the extra juice it needs to work or would I have to get a specific one with certain voltage outputs. Also this will be used to power portable speakers (not at the same time) so I was wondering if they could also power those to.

External HDD

Portable USB powered speakers

Yea it should. Not sure how long depends on how big the power bank is. The power bank (on the normal 1 Amp side if there is a 2.1 Amp side that is for TABLET!) gives off the same power as a USB slot. So if you have one of those adapters that has the two USB headers on the cable, one for Data/Power and one just for Power you could plug in the one for power on there. I just don't know if the feed back would do anything to the iPad though?
