@bystander... not sure i agree with you there...
i have a copy of both baulders gate: dark alliance and the sequel dark alliance ii and have played them both.
champions of norrath and champions return to arms are cut from the same cloth as those titles. while definitely a different game they are very similar in feel. in fact they might be slightly better.
sacred 2 is also a party based game with a long storyline but it doesnt have quite the feel to it that baulders gate did.
i agree that the single player games i mentioned are more diabloeque but still very well done and worth recommending for anyone who liked baulders gate.
i've always wanted to play NWN myself but find it hard to bring myself to get something with graphics that old. that sounds strange considering how i went out of my way to get baulders gate when i saw it. ahh... nostalgia.
Sacred 2, while you may be able to play online with players, is not a party based game. In its single player format, you play alone. It is very much like Diablo, you play alone, but can play with a few players on line if you choose, but it is purely a hack and slash.
So are all of those games. They are all hack and slash. Which is like Diablo.
They are all RPG's, and may share a similar fantasy world, they are hack and slash. Baldur's gate and the games I mentioned, all require you to control several characters by yourself, and have a lot of dialog with those characters.
I'm not arguing that they aren't good games, only they are hack and slash RPG's, as opposed to being a party based RPG.
If you haven't, and considering you got Baldur's Gate, get Dragon Age: Origins. That is the closest thing there is to a modern day Baldur's gate.
