Can anyone recommend AP/router wifi solution where I can reduce signal strength?

In summary I need:
- A wifi sharing solution that I can power and connect to a switch using an ethernet cable.
- A wifi sharing solution where I can actually configure signal strength and wifi protocols used.

I tried ASUS WL-330NUL (travel wifi router solution) where I plug it into a switch. It shares wifi fine, but the signal strength is way too high.

I only want something with a "bubble" of 5 meters - max 10. (This both from a security concern, but I also don't want to have needlessly strong wifi in general.)

I understtand 2.4ghz is stronger/penetrates more than 5ghz so it may be sufficient if I can simply turn that off.

The most flexibility is in third party firmware like dd-wrt which you can load on many router.

Asus used to have that feature, they have made so many firmware updates I can't keep up with them but I would suspect that option is still there. Almost all asus routers can load dd-wrt firmware.

Otherwise look at a semi commercial product like ubiquity sells. They have a free central admin software that can adjust power and other options on many AP at the same time.....way overkill for what you need but you can set it manually on a single device.

If you mean the travel router I have never seen that one. I would not try any router that is not directly in the supported lists. You can look at tomato and open-wrt and see if it is one of those lists.

Most times it is marvel chipset that don't work and asus uses mostly broadcom. You could see if the asus official version of wrt can load.
