I have an older Alienware Aurora R3 where most stuff in Dell is proprietary. Is it possible to use the optical drives and card readers in a new build? Is anything on an old computer a no-no to put in a new computer? Everything else would be upgraded and new in a new case. The tech friend said that the Alienware case could not be adapted to a new mother board, etc because of the complicated inside.

Can I also use my old Dell Ultrasharp 24" monitor. It seems to have all sorts of ports including an HDMI port. It worked fine before the Alienware died and it could save some money.

Thanks in advance!

Solution
Monitors don't change unless u require more resolution. Keep optical unless u must upgrade from 4x to 6x whatever, card reader remains unless u need to up from USB2 to USB3 etc, keyboard, mouse, PSU gotta have the same connector and desired power rating. Move storage over for DATA, must re-install OS.
