Hey guys, so I have an m2 (samsung 970 evo) on an Asrock B450 Pro4

Can I put an additional M.2 like the 970 or 980 or does the motherboard not have more M.2 slots?

Is my only option an SSD like 870 etc?

Thanks!

you got 2 slots. one for pcie 3.0 x 4 and the other is max pcie 3.0 x 2

so your 2 970 evos are good to go. anything else needs to be sata drives.
I am reading some people's comments on other posts and it seems like one of the slots is SATA only...

I don't really understand the PCIE specs above, so just double checking if you have heard anything similar before I order the drive.

i simply looked at the spec sheet for the mobo.

https://www.asrock.com/MB/AMD/B450 Pro4/index.asp#Specification

under storage it says

- 1 x Ultra M.2 Socket (M2_1), supports M Key type 2242/2260/2280 M.2 PCI Express module up to Gen3 x4 (32 Gb/s) (with Vermeer, Matisse, Cezanne, Renoir, Picasso, Summit Ridge, Raven Ridge and Pinnacle Ridge) or Gen3 x2 (16 Gb/s) (with Athlon series APU)**

- 1 x M.2 Socket (M2_2), supports M Key type 2230/2242/2260/2280/22110 M.2 SATA3 6.0 Gb/s module and M.2 PCI Express module up to Gen3 x2 (16 Gb/s)**

easy to see. 2 slots, 1 3.0 x 4 and the other 3.0 x 2 or sata.

no reason to doubt what is right there for all to see. :)

no problem. those tables and such can be real confusing if you are not used to reading them.

i do it all the time and some of these newer boards have me asking for help interpreting them as well.

often takes more than one of us to decipher what slot does what, what is disabled and so on...
