Can Connecto to 2.4Ghz but not the 5Ghz channel

I have an asus rt-n66u and my computer has a TP-Link n900 Wireless card. When I connect to the 2.4 Ghz channel everything works fine, but since I have a decent amount of interference no matter what wireless channel I am on, I would really prefer to connect to eht 5ghz channel. But when connecting to the 5ghz channel It wont connect. I know I put the right password in because other deveices (my phone) can connect, but the computer will not.

Anyone have any suggestions what i should do? I have updated the driver software.

How far away are you from the router, the 5ghz band degrades much faster then the 2.4 ghz band. Thus if you are 3+ walls away from the router you might not be enough signal to connect to the 5ghz band.

Also it could that your laptop does not have a duel band wireless card so it cant connect to 5ghz. My laptop doesn't, my 5ghz network SSID does not even show up on my computer.

EDIT: Nevermind I looked up the card it is dual band.

You'll only get 450Mbps on 2.4GHz 802.11n, while the 5GHz only supports 802.11a and not 802.11ac, so is limited to 54Mbps at very short, clear line of site ranges.
