I am not as versed in with current generation hardware. Would there be any issues with a GTX 970 SLI setup with 4k gaming?

Simple answer is all that I need.

Solution
not too well. higher resolutions work better with higher vram. your shorting yourself with the 3.5gb the 970 provides.

if you have a 970 and are thinking about adding a second one with a 4k monitor, you'd be much better off selling your 970 and getting a 980 ti.

Yeah I know the issue with the 3.5GB, Is there any benchmark available for the GTX 970 Sli in 4k I can find any. I feel this should still work maybe not with some titles though.

itll work, might just have to lower your settings. 4k is overkill for the most part. this generation of graphics cards just hasnt caught up enough to handle it well with out top of the line setups. if you still have an option, 1440p is a much better option for two 970. i updated my first post a bit btw. idk if you saw.

overall you probably will be under 60fps most of the time.

In the process of building another pc, I got 2 brand new GTX 970's for $200 Each couldn't pass it up lol, I don't plan to buy a 4k monitor any time soon I was just wondering 1440p is most likely what I would buy.

Maybe Nvidia should be like AMD and dump 8gb on all their cards lol.

that is a hell of a good deal. definitely 1440p is the way to go since you already have the cards. the lower vram might still hold you back a bit, but you will still have pretty good performance. its not optimal, but worth it for what you got those cards at.
