Can Hard Drives affect gaming performance?

My hard drive is god awful, and it seems to be affecting my in-game performance. My other specs are medium-high end and should be able to cope with games pretty easily, however it just seems to be dropping frames now and then.

Very frustrating, also what is a high spec hard drive I could buy? For under £100 too.

Yeah that's what I thought so. And a hard drive cannot directly affect a game, only the loading times! When a game is loading, it is accessing all the files on that map, guns, etc, it doesn't do that while gaming.

regardless, the hard drive doesnt seem to be the issue here anyways, the OP has a 7200rpm drive

Just wanted to clear that up. Probably some sort of driver corrupted.

Msi afterburner should do it http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm ...you can also log the data and etc and observe alot more than use vram usage, run this program and keep and eye on all the graphs (especially temps and vram usage) while you play games, then you can see how your card is behaving whenever there is a fps drop in a game

Also, i believe I am making an observation that shows the card never goes of 1000mb of usage, how might I fix that?

Just got a BSod, which is now leading me to believe it is a problem with my RAM or hard drive again.

I have 8gb corsair RAM, but I guess it could have been damaged when I have had my case open and installing other components! Please help! 🙂

you had a bsod?....at exactly which point?...what were you doing at the time?...also that 8gb ram, is that in 2x4gb? and that 1000mb of vram usage...it never goes anything above 1000mb when playing any game?...try running a couple of stress tests on the card to see if the vram usage goes up then or not, also if you could post pictures of what msi afterburner is showing when you're playing games etc. then it'll be helpful
