Well as long the hp z400 does have a pcie x 16 slot then it would work. However you'll need a 550 W psu for that card. Because that card is a very power hungry.

I don't know if the power supply has enough PCIe power plugs. The 475W (only HP available power supply) may only have 6 pin GPU power. The 770 requires and 8 and a 6.
