Can I buy a dvi d to displayport cable and still be able to take advantage of 144hz?

I have 3 Acer 144hz monitor and a R9 390. This graphics card has one dvi d, 3 displayports, and one hdmi. I am already using the dvi d port on the card and the monitor doesn't have displayport so could I get a dvi d to displayport cable to fix this issue or does it not work like that?

My apologies, not sure how I got distracted and didn't answer your question properly to begin with. You might be able to use something like this https://www.amazon.com/Accell-B087B-007B-UltraAV-DisplayPort-Dual-Link/dp/B00856WJH8/ref=pd_sim_147_29?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=QP71E8P21XTR7MYAACQJ which claims to be able to achieve 120hz at 1080p. Here is one that is cheaper and "eyefinity certified" https://www.amazon.com/Accell-B087B-002B-UltraAV-DisplayPort-Dual-Link/dp/B002ISVI3U

So, it'd apparently have to be an active (not passive) adapter for higher refresh rates at 1080p. Problem with these is expense. I'd hoped to be able to find a reasonably priced cable to link for you, but was unable to. A passive adapter may get you 60hz...
For 1080p content at 144Hz, use a dual link DVI-D cable or DisplayPort cable. You can also use a HDMI 1.3 or higher cable. For 144Hz on 1440p monitors, DisplayPort is the common connection, though the latest HDMI spec may now allow for it on some monitors, and possibly DL DVI-D as well (although personally haven't seen the latter used for that on 1440p monitors, yet).

A passive adapter may get you 60hz refresh on 1080p, and for considerably less than an active one, though even then you'd need to make sure to get quality cables in either case.
