Can I combine old and new PC parts when I upgrade this gaming system? (parts inside)

I want to use my old 650w PSU as well as my old CD drive and I just bought a 500gb 7200rpm HDD.

I am currently having overheating issues with a 6 year old 3.2GHZ Dual Core AMD CPU running at about 70c so I'm hoping if I switch to Intel that heat won't be as big of an issue for me. Is that true? Ambient temperatures are high in my home during summer.

Also, does anyone foresee any bottle-necking with this particular combination of parts? Is there anything that is TOO powerful or TOO weak compared to the rest of the parts here? Would anyone recommend any other parts to me? I realize this is expensive so if there's any way to get things down a bit in price without sacrificing much performance I would appreciate it!

yes, those parts are a good match for each other overall. if you are planning to overclock your cpu since its the K series. then you might want to get an aftermarket heatsink to go with it. be sure to buy a heatsink that will actually fit your case since its a mid case and might not fit the large heatsinks. if you are too worried about temperature, then a water cooler might be what your looking for but might not necessarily fit with the 80mm fan slots.

So you think if I don't overclock, then the stock heatsink will suffice?

And the parts are a good match without overclocking?

I am also a virgin to overclocking, but perhaps if this thing starts to seem to underperform for what I need it for, then might be a good time to consider water cooling? Is that right?

if you dont overclock, then the stock fan will be enough, if you are just a normal gamer, then overclocking it wont give you noticable increase in performance. if you need to run some program that requires alot of cpu power, then overclocking and watercooling would be a good choice. if you decide to go with water cooling later on, then you need to clean the stock thermal paste from your cpu. make sure that your water cooling fits your case

Okay, thank you... It seems to me like maybe in 4-5 years that I might save a lot of money by simply buying a water cooling device + a new case and then overclocking everything, instead of buying a whole new system... Except that I've been reading that those quad core Intel CPU's can only clock to about 4.2Ghz maximum before becoming unstable.... Hmm.... Then I'm wondering, does a 3.4 quad mean that there are 4 CPU's each running at 0.85Ghz? Or is there 4 of them at 3.2Ghz?

each one runs its own frequency, most of the time they run at different frequency too depending on the task given to them.
