Hello, i have a mobo with a 4 pin cpu connecter, but my psu only has an 8 pin connecter. My question is, can i use this adapter, (http://www.orbitmicro.com/global/32000-029000-p-9685.html) and plug it into the 4 pin cpu connecter? Will this work? is this what the cable was made for? As of right now when since there is things next to the connecter on the mother board i can not connect half of the 8 pin :/

if you can split it that is a better solution....molex power is not as stable, it will work but its not ideal.

i have 2 more questions?
first: where can i buy this locally? i dont want to wait for the shiping, so can i find it at a radioshack, best buy, staples, walmart?

second: i was able to plug in half the 8 pin but the computer wont start, i checked the psu using the paperclip trick and checked my connections using my old psu, so is the problem that the wrong 4 were pluged in or is it possible that my computer wont support the psu?, or did i just plug in the wrong half of the 8 pin?

Thank you so much

You have connected something wrong. Altough I don't see how could you connect it wrong due to shape. Maybe it's something else that is wrong.

Only proper way is to connect this one you have. Molex can't handle 75W.

What is your CPU?

i attempted to connect half of the 8 pin but the computer would not start, i checked the psu with the paperclip trick and i checked the mobo connectors with an old psu, is there a certin side i have to use? (i.e. the left side or the right side)

Can you provide your PSU model?

+1
it won't fit hooked up wrong. and as we stated molex is far from ideal. you really should see if your other connections are hooked up correctly or your motherboard is grounded by a screw.

The mobo i have is the M2N68-LA (Ivy8) (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c01237548#N215)
The psu model: Emacs HP2-6460P (http://www.stayonline.com/detail.aspx?id=929)
and the cpu i have is the AMD Athlon LE-1640

do you have any suggestions for a cheap one that would work with my computer? my budget would be around $40
