Hello good afternoon. Here is my little problem: In my house my mom likes to use a lot of pesticide and my brother likes to use too much spray deodorant. Also my house is very dusty so I think I need something to cover my new computer which cost me almost $2000.

The thing is that where I live I cannot find the typical dust covers which are made of special materials (anti-static) and I just wondered if I can just use a plain cloth to cover the case when not in use, whithout worrying about static frying my expensive components.

So you're talking about putting a cloth cover over your computer when it's not turned on? It's not 100% safe, but you can minimize risk by using 100% cotton and staying away from wool, silk, and synthetic fabrics.

I have no idea what you can go buy easily. Most anti-static mats and materials are made from some sort of polyvinyl or rubber based layered material. You could piece a cover together using some of those foam rubber placemats, and line the interior with the cotton fabric.

Sorry if this sounds like a silly question, but what if I just buy a large plastic thin layer that is sold in the stationery store? Would that work as an anti-static?
