I had a work laptop with a display port that I had connected to my TV so have a display cable that I plugged into it. I have been given a replacement laptop but its an HDMI. I can't easily get to the other end of the cable as I'm disabled. I thought if I put a female to female display port adapter on the end of the cable and then plug a display port to HDMI cable it would solve the problem. Would this work?

So you have displayport to HDMI cable - plugged into TV HDMI.
You can not physically access HDMI port on your TV.

You want to connect HDMI laptop to your TV using already installed cable.
Is that correct?

You'll need HDMI to DP adapter then.

There are 2 usb slots on the laptop one for my Mouse and one fir my keyboard so there is no spare USB slot. I am also only a volunteer at the small charity and I have the cable just need to get the connector. I just need to know if it will or won't work?

I'm not sure, how female DisplayPort to DisplayPort adapter will help there.
It has DP on both sides.
You have HDMI coming out of laptop and
DP to HDMI cable going into TV.

Do you intend to use HDMI to Display port cable ? (Those all require additional power BTW.)
And then connect female Displayport to Displayport adapter?
And then connect to DP-HDMI cable going into TV ?

NOTE - DP-HDMI and HDMI-DP cables are unidirectional.
They work in one direction only and do not work in opposite direction.
Direction is signal source (laptop) to signal receiver (TV).
