Currently Im running an fx-4300, which I know is terrible for gaming, so should I upgrade to an fx-8350 or should I switch to intel, and If I do switch to intel would I need to change my motherboard
current specs:
Toshiba 1 TB hard drive
cx 500 psu
8 gb of DDR3
R7 260x
amd fx-4300

No. If you switch to Intel, you will have to purchase a motherboard that is compatible with the CPU you want. Once you have found the CPU that you want to purchase, notice it's socket type. With this information, you can then search for a motherboard that is compatible with the CPU socket. Solution
Amd and Intel are two separate companies and PC parts are not interchangeable, you either have Intel or Amd.

If you switch to Intel you will need a, new motherboard, new ram (I think),new cpu.
