Can I fry my PC by overclocking?

I wanted to overclock my pc (Alienware m17x r5) because right now it's stock at 2.50ghz I feel that's too slow and can clock up to 3.4 I'm pretty sure. Can I fry it by overclocking? If not how can I overclock?
Specs:
Core i7-4710MQ 2.50GHz
8GB Ram
Nvidia 880M

It's very unlikely you can overclock laptop hardware. And yes you can fry it. Laptops are designed for a specific heat load.

Almost a 1 GHz OC on a laptop. I wouldn't think that that is worth the risk. I can understand like 2.9 or something like that but 3.4 is a big OC without being able to add addition or higher quality cooling to a system.
