Can I get an adapter to make my monitor work at 144hz? Please HELP!!!

Hi,

Unbeknown to me you can rarely use a 144hz monitor using HDMI, so now I turn to the experts here for help as you can tell already I'm a noob...

I bought Asus VG248QE 144hz monitor:

My laptop does not have the display port that the cable that comes with the monitor can connect to, however it has a couple of smaller display ports. Can I get an adapter to make my monitor work at 144hz using any of the ports on my laptop? I searched "144" under frequently asked questions and a couple results indicated that it will run at 144hz. What laptop do you have?

Hi,

It's a MSI GE72VR Apache Pro. I initially plugged it in using HDMI, however it does not display as an external monitor, simply a generic PHP monitor.

Your monitor has a Mini DisplayPort output. That's the same thing as DisplayPort, just with a different shape connector. Just get a DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable.
