Question Can I install 10TB HDD in Dell T-7500 workstation ?

My Dell T-7500 workstation spec sheet says 10 TB maximum storage capacity.

It has 4 drive bays & currently I am running 1 x 500 GB SSD + 1 x 2 TB SSD + 1 x 6 TB HDD.
Instead of 6 TB HDD, I want buy a new 10 TB HDD.
Does that mean, I will not be able to run that 10 TB HDD with other two SSDs I mentioned ?

What operating system are you running it may be that 10tb is the maximum it can address

If you're still on windows 7 that came with the computer then 16TB is the limit due to sector size, 4K sector support did not come out till windows 8 for larger drives.

So if I understand correctly, you are saying that yes, I can run a 10 TB HDD besides the other two SSDs one 500 GB & the other 2 TB ?

Then there are 7 sata ports so you could have up to 7 drives installed in the computer.

Yes, that is it.
But I don't understand 10TB storage limit in spec sheet.

At the time windows 7 came out the largest drive was 2TB, in 2013 WD released the first 10TB drive. Its just one of those you have to look into the future and guess how big a drive will be and put it in the specs.


Edit....... i stand corrected, dug a little more into the drives. 14TB uses 512 byte sector sizes, when you jump to a 16TB dive it uses 4096 bytes sector size. Windows 7 does not read 4k sector sizes so the larges you could go it 14TB
