Can I install Windows 7 on another HD partition?

If I have a HD that has 320GB on it with Windows XP installed, nothing else and another unused partition that is around 195GB can I also install Windows 7? Thanks.

You can do that - install Win7 to the unused partition and you will be able to dual boot XP and 7 whenever you start up the machine.
