I just wanted to know if I could successfully install windows xp x86 on my system which has 64-bit processor (Intel Celeron G530)? Right now my computer's running Windows 8 Pro 64-bit. Also if I can install it, how can I put it to dual boot?
being that you mention 2 GB ram , then there may be hope, link your motherboard , lookup windows xp drivers, make a list. then follow i7's instructions. I simply change boot orders in the bios when I want to step back to Windows 3.11 (on my Packard bell)
32 bit will runon a 64 bit platform as long as Chipset drivers are out there (Doubtful),
Also, I had issues with the hard drives on OEM rigs because of drive security built in.
but why bother, you can run a VMware load on that machine. I am a king for nostalgia but I gave up on this type of setup and started running virtual and old hardware to bring back memories (Tandy computer hooked to VGA switch box here on my desk)
You probably can't get device drivers for your hardware for XP. The device driver architecture changed in Vista so newer drivers aren't compatible with XP. So if you have newer hardware (COU, chipset, etc.) you might not be able to get XP drivers for it.
Did you mean installing it on a separate HDD or simply partition the existing HDD and then install?
Also can you throw some more light on "Use a Boot Manager"?

Hi PCIBUSDRIVER,
My computer is custom built, thereby eliminating the OEM issues.
As far as VMware is concerned I am already runnin' my windows 8 on the minimum requirements that is 2 GB RAM. I guess running VMware on top of that would be problematic. The limited RAM is the sole reason I want to switch back to Windows XP/Vista or maximum to Windows 7.
What I can make out from your suggestion is that it would be easy to install Windows 7/Vista on my machine considering the drivers' availability. Please correct me where I am wrong. I'll wait for your reply. Thanks in advance
