Can i just add an extra 8gb ram ?

ive got 8gbs of ram wiith a speed of 1600mhz but i dont know the brand. Can i just get any other 8gb of ram that is 1600mhz to add to get 16gb?

Yes you can. However like keith said pairing up random sticks of RAM can sometimes not work. To reduce the possibility of this try and buy the exact same brand, model, specs that you have already. Please also remember your RAM can only run as fast as your slowest RAM stick, so since you have 1600 don't bother buying sticks that are faster than that.

Personally I haven't had a mixed stick problem in a long time so your chances of it working are greater than your chances of it not working. Its just very annoying when it doesn't work as each individual stick works fine, just not together.
that's never advised. It's always best to get a matched kit of 2 x 8 gb DIMMS. Sell your current ram, to offset the cost.

The reason is, that even if you get roughly the same 1600mhz DIMMS, you can't be sure the timings are the same, or the voltage required is the same. This leads to incompatibility issues.

Use something like CPU-s to get your DIMM info (ram type ) and mobo. Then we can recommend something for you to get.

List your full PC specs, including CPU, ram, mobo, GPU, PSU.
