I just bought these PC parts and I'm looking to OC the GPU and potentially the CPU if I get a cooler. I wanted to know if it's safe to do this, and if not is there any recommendations on PSU's since I'm new to OC'ing.

(I requested a cancel on the PSU so if it gets accepted I can buy a better PSU)

Solution
You'll want a bigger and or better PSU for overclocking. I would either get a Corsair CX650 or CX650m. However I would get a Corsair TXm/RMx Seasonic FOCUS G series, or EVGA G2over the CX.

Not to mention I wouldn't buy a RX580 new in 2020, you can find used ones much cheaper or buy something like the GTX 1650 Super which is roughly the same price new.

Here's better build

Thanks for the recommendations for the PSU, the GPU was actually given to me so i'm just building around that on a decent budget.
I was looking at the CX650 on amazon, should i try find a semi-modular version or is non modular fine to work with.

Also would the 550W psu be able to handle OC'ing to the GPU, nothing major.

Yes it would, I dont know if you use the stock cpu cooler because 3d gen ryzen runs hot so I would not oc with a stock cooler

Yeah i'm currently using stock cooler, so if i was to OC the cpu i'd probably get an aftermarket cooler. Would 550w be enough or is 650w the safer bet for 'future proofing'.

If its a good 550 Watt then it would be enough, however 650 is a safer bet these days. Dont go by wattage alone, build quality matters when it comes to PSUs. The ones I suggest are all higher quality and even the CX650 (grey and black label, not the one with green label) and CX650m are good budget models.

As far as CX vs CXm it doesnt really matter, I prefer modular and semi modular PSUs mainly because you don't have to have more cables then you absolutely need.

Yes, I have a nice 650W 80+ Gold rated PSU fully modular from Cooler Master. It was the cheapest one I could find at that moment. It was arround 75 euro's in my country. But still Cooler Master is not the best brand that makes PSU's, I recommend seasonic or high quality corsair

It's a Ryzen. I'd not bother trying to OC, they get quite unpredictable and there's circumstances and consequences that are still coming to light about exactly how much current and voltages are honestly safe to use. Best bet is to enable PBO and autoOC and let the cpu regulate itself through Ryzen Master. Along with this, concentrate on the ram. Ryzens love fast ram and tighter timings, it works on the infinity fabric the cpu uses to communicate between the cores. Upto a point.

For 3rd Gen, 3600MHz at 14Cas is as good as it gets, but is expensive, so many ppl either opt for 3200/14 or 3600/16 and OC manually to get better speeds/Cas. There's an online dram calculator to help with timings to optimize performance.

CoolerMaster doesn't make psus. Someone else does, like FSP, and slaps a CoolerMaster paint job on the outside. Seasonic is an actual OEM and has very high quality control over its house brand. Most CoolerMaster labeled psus are pretty mediocre platforms, their 'lite' versions are borderline garbage, although the older V series is very respectable.

For a Rx580, you'll want a very good quality 550w at a minimum, or a very decent 650w. All the Rx series are well documented to spike in power draws and if the psu isn't built to handle the sudden current smash, you can run into issues with power fluctuations which can result in anything from shutdowns to data corruption.

They are good cards, some are very good, but have to look at the entire big picture, not just a few numbers when building around them.
