Question Can I omit a reservoir from these custom loops?

Hi, All,

I am going to build two custom loops. Both will be PETG and both will use NexXxos V.2 radiators, one radiator per loop. These radiators have a third 1/4G port for filling and bleeding.

So long as the fill port is the highest point in the system, can I omit using any reservoir at all?

TIA

What will you use to drain? Having the reservoir at the low point provides a drain also.

While the fill port of the radiator will be the high point in the system, the input and output ports of the radiator will be the low point is the system, so I can tee off with a ball valve on one of them for a drain port.

Except for watching the water flow and bubbles, it appears to me that a radiator serves all the same functions of a reservoir while eliminating three potential sources of leaks. Or am I missing something?

Reservoirs are certainly optional. They just make it more convenient to fill, refill, etc. Way easier to bleed when you can see the waterline too.

Only in an ideal setup is the reservoir the lowest point, but that is more or less common in your typical tube style reservoir setup with a top mounted radiator.

Front mounted radiator will often end up being the logical drain port, using a T fitting. At least that is how I have always ended up. My reservoir is actually the highest point at the moment.
