Im on budget and this is the only motherboard I can afford atm. Im looking to overclock my 1700 around 4.2Ghz and wont go over 4.5Ghz. Im not interested on other features except overclocking my cpu. Is this a good motherboard?

Setup:

Motherboard: MSI ProSeries AMD
GPU: Gtx 1070 mini
CPU: Ryzen 1700 (with wraith spire)
RAM: DDR4 8GB (1x8)
PSU: Evga 600w Bronze

yes, you can overclock on it as long as its B350 or X370, easily too.

Thank you! Just wanted to make sure :)

On the stock cooler you should be able to get that CPU up to 3.6ghz - 3.7ghz, on stock voltage too, you wont get 4.2ghz to 4.5ghz though, no RyZens do those speeds unless you are on LN2 and bang stupid amounts of voltage through it, the max is 3.9ghz-4.0ghz.

No way will you ever be able to overclock this CPU to those frequencies. As stated below, the best you can hope for is 3.9. Why are you trying to push that system configuration to such an extreme? Nothing you have listed points to a high performance build anyway.

^ Yeah I missed some of that.
1700 will go to 4.1gh absolute max - that's ryzens limit.

Most will do 4ghz or 4.05ghz.

The asrock pro 4 will do that if your CPU can manage it.

It won't do it with acceptable temps on the spire.
I hit 88c & still rising under stress testing at 4ghz 1.42v - too hot .
It may manage that clock at a purely gaming level on 50% loads.

3.6/7 it will do comfortable at around 70c max.

If you think ryzen can hit 4.2 let alone 4.5ghz you need to do a little more research.

That vdh does not look good enough imo.

If you want max performance on a ryzen chip & your budget is tight then drop to the 1600 & buy a better board.
