i have an old game of windows 95 can i play it in windows 7

There is no definitive yes/no answer to the question. Some games from that era install and run just fine using compatibility mode and others will not. The only way to find out is to install it. If it turns out not to run and you really want it then install a good VM (VirtualBox, VMWare, etc.) and install a copy of Windows 95 in the virtual environment.

VM is quite possibly the best way of using an older game without problems but install it and find out, try using the compatibility troubleshooter if it doesn't work and you can do this for the installation disk just look for the installation file (usually an .exe file). VM is good but you'll need good hardware for that.
