Question Can I plug a 6+2 pin cable from my psu into my gpu?

I have a psu that has a 6+2 pin cable that is for a graphics card and my graphics card only has a 6 pin female for external power. Will it damage my gpu or graphics card if i just plug in 6 pins into my gpu and leave the other two dangling?

6+2 plug is meant exactly for that.
It can be plugged into 6pin PCIE connector and
also can be plugged into 8pin PCIE connector.

Doesn't damage anything. Unless you're trying to force it somewhere, where it does not fit.

you can use it for the 8 pin gpu, its in the form of 6+2 pin so that older gpus that dont require 8 pins can also be plugged into the psu for compatibility

It has nothing to do with the compatibility of older GPU's , and everything to do with the power requirments for said GPU. There are newer cards that use a 6-pin because they don't require the power of an 8-pin.
