*Don't know much about networks sorry*

So my student wifi is absolutely horrendous however when it's wired connection it works absolutely fine. I also keep getting disconnected when on wireless and the speed is awfully slow.
I'm basically wondering if i can get a wifi router and plug it straight into the Ethernet port in the kitchen (I have none in my room where my PC and console is) and get wifi from it. Read a lot of forums saying go to the existing router but i do not have access to a router unfortunately.

Solution
You can connect a WiFi router to an ethernet port and set it to something called "bridge mode" or "NAT disabled". This way, the router won't do any routing, it will just send any WiFi signals to your main router, and any ethernet traffic will also be converted to WiFi signals.

Then make your PC and console "forget" the previous WiFi setup, and connect them to the new router.

Well I do alot of gaming that's the main issue, so will this just make it worse and if so is there any other solutions or is it worth trying

Okay that's great thankyou! Is there any specific router I need or can you recommend any (fairly cheap I'm a student )

As I said it will depend on any restrictions placed on the network by your network admin, if you run an access point you will have multiple MAC address hitting their switch, this is normally the first restriction placed on a secured managed network. Ask the question before you spend your money.
