Is there anyway to prove an Evo850 drive is new (never used) ? Seller claims it is new but it is out of the box

Solution

Install CrystalDiskInfo
Look at the values for Power On Count and Power On Hours

For instance, this is my almost 3 year old boot drive, from a couple months ago:

What do you need help understanding?

A very low number of Power On Counts and Power On Hours means it is likely new. It is unlikely to be zero though as they are usually tested in the factory. Something like Power On Count under 25 and less than 10 hours I would say it is new.

Back in November, I got a couple of 840 EVO drives. It was indeed 1 and 0, IIRC.
I was looking for that specific screencap...🙁

Yea I didn't actually look at my MX100 when I got it. I was thinking along the lines of a new car. Even new cars has a few miles on them. My assumption is the guy hooked it up and benchmarked it and resold it as 'new'. Maybe we should be looking at how much data has been written to it as well.

And CrystalDiskInfo can tell that as well.
Can't tell until he installs the drive and runs the software...😉
