Can I remove an internal CD drive and put a Hard drive caddy with an ssd in?

I would take out the CD drive, insert a hard drive caddy, and put an ssd in. I have one of the laptops that has it completely inside, and there is just the black foam stuff of the side where you insert the disk. Kind of like a macbook pro. Is could I do that?
It is covered by a few things, so I would have to take them off, then put them back on.
