I have a gigabyte h110m-h motherboard and a 2x8gb 2666mhz ram and an i3 6100. Can I run my ram on 2400mhz after i updated the bios even though im still using a 6th gen cpu?
So it still depends on the cpu even though my motherboard have an intel xmp options?

But to answer your question regardless
That motherboard can handle 2400MHz, but your CPU will not. If you set your board to run it at 2400MHz you might get latency issues or worse, system crashes.
