Can I build a viable and efficient gaming PC...without a video card? I have come across some PC techs at the local PC tech shop telling me that you don't actually need a video card to run games on the PC because the newer Motherboards with better Processors can handle the graphics without stepping up to purchase a Radeon video card. What say you gamers out there?

They're probably trying to get you to buy a amd APU, which is in fact a low-end processor with a mediocre built-in graphics chip. EVERY computer has to have a graphics adaptor of some sort, even if it's the onboard.

That being said, no, if you're talking about actually gaming, even an APU isn't going to cut it without having to lower resolution and detail a LOT.

I run a i4670k stock clocked for now on Z87-G45 gaming mobo. I run ~100fps in league of legends, ~50-60 fps in world of tanks and metro 2033 runs smoothly. That's all on mediumish settings(medium with some things turned up shadows turned off) 1080p. Can you play games without a dedicated graphics card? Yes, some games will run fairly well. Can you play newer games on ultra 60+fps no. Depends on what you play, what settings you play at, and your acceptable fps. I'm getting a graphics card towards the end of November but for now the intel 4600 works for me.

If you really don't want to get a video card, then the best thing you can get for gaming is the AMD A10-6800K. As well as raccoon is doing with his i7-4670K (which costs $240), the A10-6800K crushes it in gaming. However, in pretty much everything else, the i7 crushes the A10 so if your primary purpose is gaming, then the A10-6800K is the thing for you, especially since it's $100 less expensive than the i7.

The 4670K is an i5. Just, y'know, saying.

Also, the A10 is a seriously bad idea because if you ever do want to add a video card and have a proper gaming computer, it'll gimp you on the compute side.

Just go with a dedicated card, even if it's a cheap one. It's a much better idea.

I totally agree with this. It's much better to get a real CPU and a real video card for gaming. I guess it all depends on your budget. If you can't afford the CPU and video card, then the A10 is what you should get. If you can afford at least an AMD FX-6300 ($120) and a Radeon HD 7770 (~$100) then that's the way you should go.

And yeah, my bad on calling the 4670K an i7. I haven't used an Intel CPU since my old Core2Duo...LOL

Nope. Sorry if they meant simple games or indie games or flash games. Yes. If you mean crysis 3 or mafia or batman or max payne 3 or next gen no ways. You can get away will old games in d 2002 to 2010 era. But not in today scenario
