Been trying to upgrade my laptop and need to know if anyone can confirm that i have to stick with ddr3. It tells me ddr3 but everything ddr3 is hella expensive compared to ddr4. I really just need better than 8gb of RAM maybe say 16????

Solution
Hi Southkalifelan.

DDR3 cannot fit in DDR4 slots and the opposite is the same. If that laptop says DDR3 you have to buy DDR3.

How much memory does the ASUS X555LAB Laptop take?
You can upgrade your ASUS X555LAB Laptop to up to a maximum memory capacity of 12GB Memory.

How many total memory slots to install memory?

The Laptop has 2 Slots (1 Upgradable) to install memory, already with 4GB ( Soldered) standard memory installed. For best X555LAB Laptop performance use the maximum amount of 12GB, fill all the slots with the max allowed memory per slot for your Laptop.

Any upgrade to that laptop RAM needs to be - DDR3 PC3L-12800 204pin CL=11 DDR3-1600 1.35V SODIMM

If you have 8GB already it means you have the soldered 4GB and another 4GB. Only upgrade left is removing the 4GB and replacing it by a 8GB for a total of 12GB max.

Thank you Nemesia for responding. Ive been getting the same feedback just from search engines however COMPURAM claims it can run ddr4 and also beyond 12gb RAM, we talking about 20/24! https://www.compuram.biz/memory/asus/notebook/x-serie/series/x555la-x555lab/

If I go to the link you provided it still says DDR3.
https://www.compuram.biz/memory/asus/notebook/x-serie/series/x555la-x555lab/?st=tab_maxmem

Unfortunately everywhere I go and all the videos of that laptop I can see is really 12GB max of RAM DDR3.

It's physically impossible to fit DDR4 in DDR3 slots. The notch on the RAM is not at the same place. It's DDR3 100%.

Here is some websites with the info.

Thanks again for responding. And yes i find all the same info except for COMPURAMs website. If you scroll down to the bottom it shows you a
16GB DDR3 1600 MHz PC3-12800 SODIMM 204 pin Sodimm Laptop Memory RAM DDR3L
or something similar to the one above. So can i install this instead of an 8gb?

Not gonna work. 12GB maximum. That 16GB stick is for another model of the 555 laptop.

If the manufacturer says 12GB max and you see no articles of forum post where it says that you can install that 16GB stick do not buy it.
