Can i run no man's sky?

Solution
Yes, you can run it, though you may need to adjust details if gaming at 1080p. The 7850 is actually more powerful than the GTX 480 because of newer architecture, but they are very similar.

The minimum AMD card is listed as a 7870 which is a little better than yours and has twice as much VRAM. There is no way to know the answer to your question right now because the game is not out until Friday on PC and there are no benchmarks.

Will it run? Probably if you turn the settings all the way down and think about playing at 720p resolution. Will it run well? Who knows.

Your CPU is very good and you have plenty of RAM. If you want to be sure of a smooth gameplay experience and high settings all you would need is a new GPU to turn that into a decent, modern gaming PC. Even something relatively cheap like the new AMD RX 470 should provide a huge upgrade from your 7850 and give you good results in No Man's Sky.

I have the coolermaster b500 ver2 its a 500w psu it could handle a superclocked gtx 960 really well with no problems but i had to sell it and get a used 7850 because i have to pay for my fees and now i need a gpu that has low psu requirements can it handle the 470?

I don't think Cooler Master PSUs are known to be the highest quality but a RX 470 requires less power than a GTX 960. An RX 480 should also be fine. The 4GB model is only slightly more expensive than a 470 if you can actually find one in stock. The RX 480 would be an upgrade from your old 960 and either the 470 or 480 would be huge upgrades from a 7850.

Uhm, older question but actually no.
The 7850 is 13% proportionally less powerful than the 480.
And the 7850 MIGHT run the game at low settings...
And the 480 can easily run it Medium to High settings :)

Go for the 480 :)
Maybe it's and older card but still can max out some games 60FPS at 720P 😀

This is confusing because the OP mentioned that the minimum Nvidia spec is a GTX 480. I recommended an upgrade to AMD's RX 480. These cards have the same model number but we are talking about two completely different levels of performance from two completely different eras.

The OP PM'd me telling me he was going to buy an RX 480 on my suggestion. With cheap new cards like AMD's RX 470 beating the GTX 480 from 2010 with much less power draw and more supported features I can't see any reason to buy the old GTX in 2016.

Yup, I clearly do not understand this.
On Game Debate i got Medium to High settings testing the GTX 480 :??:

You realize the game isn't out for another hour and a half right? There are no benchmarks available for No Man's Sky that I am aware of. From a quick glance at Game Debate's website it looks like they are just guessing based on no actual benchmarks.

That isn't the point anyways. The OP doesn't have a GTX 480. They asked if they could run it on their HD7850 1GB. The only reason the GTX 480 was even mentioned is because it is listed as the minimum GPU in the system requirements.

Do you really recommend going out and buying a used, six-year-old GPU? You think that would be the best upgrade from his 7850? The OP has a nice CPU and enough RAM to turn that machine into a modern gaming PC. After some posts here he told me in a PM that he is going to get the RX 480 or GTX 1060. Either of those would destroy a GTX 480. Even a cheap RX 470, which he also considered, would beat a GTX 480 while having DX12 support and using a fraction of the power. There is no situation in which upgrading to a GTX 480 makes sense unless he has someone willing to give him one for free.

I don't think it's worth getting a GTX 480.
I was just replying to get a GTX 480 instead of a GTX 470.
But if I would pick, I would say go for AT LEAST a GTX 950 :)

Um, actually it might be "13% proportionally less powerful than the 480," but the 7850 still does better when comparing core details :)

I really don't understand where it pulled that "13% less powerful" statistic from, seeing how the 7850 beat the 480 in almost every category.

But this tells me that since the 7850 is definitely on par with the 480, you'll have no problems running this game :)
