Hello !

For some time, this idea has been in my head and I think it's time to get started! So I would like to start to stream on Twitch. Currently abroad, I do not intend to invest in a PC right now.
I have my laptop, but I don't know if it would possible to stream with this. Can you help me please?
It is an Asus ROG G550JK-CN363H :
  • Intel Core i7-4710HQ (Quad-Core 2.5 GHz / 3.5 GHz Turbo - cache 6 Mo)
  • RAM 8Go
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 850M
I don't know if it would help but, I will use my phone (samsung s9+) as webcam, I have a soundcard (audiobox usb presonus) for my mic and my headphone, I will use Streamlabs OBS too.
If you need more informations, so please ask me

I don't know if it is possible to change the composition of my computer, but if it is possible and necessary, I think the cost will be more interesting than buying a new computer!

Thank you a lot for your help ^^

The simple answer is, you may be able to stream, but the output is going to be very poor. You need a much more powerful system to stream with a decent video output, and being able to play the game while recording at decent settings. Otherwise, everything just looks stuttery and it's not a nice experience to watch videos like that or for your in game FPS to be so bad, you may as well be watching a slide show.

Short : Yes.
Long : As keith12 said.
Really comes down to the game you want to stream. If its PacMan, sure, you'll be fine. If its anything from the past 5 years, you'll probably struggle to be able to offer a decent resolution stream while keeping your FPS at a decent level.
I tried streaming with my G3258 8GB system a few years ago, while playing unturned. It was shocking.

Theres nothing on a laptop that you can change that will help unfortunately, sure, can throw more RAM at it but overall not worth it.

Aaah okay, thank you a lot. I understand now. I don't think I'll stream with PacMan haha
So I don't have other choice that buy another computer. I found one that should do the job !
Could you confirm it please?
It is the MSI GL63 8RD-830XFR

Type : Intel Core i5-8300H
Fréquence : 2.3 GHz / Turbo à 4.0 GHz
Coeurs : Quad Core / 8 Threads
Cache : 8 Mo

Type : Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti

Type : 8 Go DDR4 (2666 MHz)

Thank you again

I guess so, but I prefer to save my money to buy a Gaming PC (not a laptop) when I'll be back to home.
So if this laptop does the job, even if it is not high stream, I am good with this for the begining ^^

Thank you a lot for all your help !

FYI your GPU has a built in encoder which should allow you to stream without much performance impact. The downside is that I believe video quality may be lower compared to CPU encoding.

Should be an option to use NVENC in OBS.

Do you speak about the ASUS or the MSI please?

Either, any recent Nvidia GPU has this feature. Although they typically tweak it a bit every new GPU generation, so newer ones may be able to encode at higher resolution/fps/bitrate, have less of a performance impact, have better output quality, etc.

AMD also has a hardware encoder in their GPUs (which they refer to as VCE).
