Can I Switch Routers?

Hi, I have just an annoying stupid terrible router from Verizon and would like to know if I could change the router. I would like to be able to get maybe another router being that I need to use a really bad WiFi range extender to get internet ( router is in my basement and my pc is the floors up).

you have to keep your verizon router, but you can turn off it's wireless, and connect another router to it and use it for wireless connections.

You have to check what routers they will allow. Most companies will allow you to purchase your own, they just won't help you configure them.

Is your router also your cable modem? If so you need to keep it. You can just connect another router to it for the wireless portion of your network if you wish.

i just got the newest fios router and can say it was a big improvement over the old one i had. from what i have seen, you won't be able to use a non verizon modem. as stated above, you can disable the wireless and then connect a better quality wifi router for the wireless signal if need be.

i was right where you are wanting better connection and the new router was my last stop before using my own wifi one. but for the $100 the new model was good enough. i now have the Fios Quantum gateway which came out only a few months ago. well worth the price. this would be my first try if you are still on the older craptastic model.
