I am going to Puerto Rico and I am building a PC. All the parts are here already but I would like a definitive answer as to me bringing it as a carry on item. Now don't everyone jump to answer this......-_- Lol.

Re-Title: Ravens on a Plane

Agreed, contact the airport or airline. Generally you can store electronics in your checked luggage. Carry on might be interesting. Generally they check laptops and electronics by having them turned on, which would be difficult with a desktop.

I think is a stupid test, since it would be easy to make the LCD panel on a laptop boot to something and have the guts of the PC be something else entirely.

Yeah I agree with everyone else - it's best to contact the airline. I think American TSA rules allow for carryons of a certain size and yes you could fit a case that small, but again it would depend on the dimensions of the luggage that you plan to bring on board your flight.

I am just going to put it in a small bag, they usually are lenient towards the size (over here in Chicago anyways) of your carry on. I sent them an Email, Jet Blue. I will let everyone know what they say then choose The answer. I also agree with everyone here. Me being someone who is always on a computer should have known I could get in contact with the Airline with a few clicks...

Am a little bit of road warrior so I can speak with some authority.

"definite answer" = good luck. The reason I say this is, the airline may not care, but if the TSA has problem then they are the ultimate arbitrator and unfortunately I've found TSA to be inconsistent based on which airport.

I will give it 85% yes, but I will not give your "definite answer," and a 100% NO if it has water cooling.

BTW, having you turn it on is seldomly done these days, unless the X-Ray guy doesn't like it then yeah, you gotta take everything out.

What happens if the TSA guy says no, will you have someone else with you that can take the computer back home and figure out a way to ship it? Here's an idea: Don't assemble it until you get to PR. Keep the parts in their individual boxes and pack them in your checked luggage, except maybe HDD's if you are using them, put in your carry on. Then try to check the empty computer case through TSA. If they say no, and you have to abandon that at the airport, you won't lose your whole rig.

I'm not really worried about TSA saying no. This is Chicago and I've read multiple post since posting this and people have actually brought whole mATX cases on planes with no problem. Jet Blue told me it was up to TSA too... I just put most of the badges and stickers on it so they can see it's a gaming computer. I'll most likely just take it to the airport this weekend and see if it's acceptable.

I've brought an Xbox 360 console on overseas flights with multiple airlines, TSA answer on a computer was there is no issue with it as long as it's not too big for a carry-on. Just be prepared to have your stuff plugged in, particularly in Europe, as they use that as part of their security check (And they do that for electronics in general before boarding: PSP, Console, Laptop, phones, etc.) That I can confirm since I travel quite frequently overseas. Obviously I would steer clear of any liquid cooling. If you're going to a third world country be prepared to fight for bringing it back though as some of those places try to use anything out of the ordinary as an excuse to bleed some bribe money out of you.
