Can I Upgrade from i3 6100 to a i3 9100 Both LGA1151 Sockets
The motherboard us a LGA1151 Socket board and has DDR4 Ram, Is it possible to put a 9100 cpu in the board? as the socket is the same, and the ddr4 ram is the same and both come from the lake family, So is it possible to upgrade?

If you look up the make/model of your motherboard, you should find the compatible CPU list on its support site. A motherboard that supports 6000 series CPUs will not support 9000 series ones.

In short no it will not work.

1XX and 2XX series motherboards accept intel 6XXX and 7XXX series cpus.
3XX and 4XX series motherboards accept intel 8XXX and 9XXX series cpus.

Edit for corrections.....been a while since i followed motherboards. Went from a Z370 with a 8700k to an AMD build.

Not quite.

100 and 200 series for 6th and 7th gen, yes.
300 series for 8th and 9th gen. There was a Z370 and a Z390 refresh, but not a move to 400 series.
400 and 500 series for 10th and 11th gen.
600 and 700 series for 12-14th gen
800 series for Core 200S "15th" gen.
