hi guys,

first post, hope everyone is ok.

i will be receiving my new pc soon and it has the Intel i5 4570s, themotherboard is the ASRock Z87 Extreme 4 which will accept 4th gen i3,u5 and i7.

problem is i dont know what the next cpu is from the one i have now.

any help would be appreciated

many thanks

Solution
i just think i5 is some what out dated when there are i7 and i9 out there.

Well, yes, four core procs are behind the curve now, but it doesn't mean it's not capable of giving you good service. The only other options you will have on that motherboard will be 4th gen i7 (or Xeon) and unless you can come across a used one cheap it wouldn't be worth buying a new one.
thank you for the reply.

i just seen that cpu and wondered if that would fit so i had to google to see what pins i have and its lga1150 so yes that cpu would fit.

do you mean water cooler of some sort?

yes i agree, the seller was wanting nearly 200 pound for that i7 cpu.

i will continue to look around but as you have said, the cpu i have has got great reviews.

Yes, Intel chips hold value quite well. I noted that the price for the 37xx i7's dropped pretty well when 9th gen came out. As 10th gen matures a bit and becomes widely available perhaps the 47xx will do the same?

Your motherboard will not support the latest generations of CPUs. Something like an I9 9900k or I7 9700k would not work for example.

Your board will only work with 4th generation Intel CPUs. You could upgrade to the I7 4790k at max.
thank you, i understand now.

yep that is the only drawback on this motherboard, can only accpet 4th gen cpus.

what would you say is cheap for one of them 4790k cpus?

ok, lets say i wanted more power then i would have to upgrade my therboard, am i right?

In the case that you were just going to turn right around and purchase a new motherboard/cpu/ram then it would strongly put into question why you bothered to purchase this rig in the first place?
4th gen Intel is still quite viable today both for productivity and gaming. Assuming you found this rig at a good price and that it was already a vast improvement over your previous rig I would say enjoy your new goodie. If not, or if you are questioning the purchase this hard already, and outside a buyers remorse situation, you might look into return policy.
